禅林中敲鼓时，中途变换敲击方法，称为转鼓。如以上堂鼓为例，修行僧依鼓声信号出堂，是时，击鼓即有第一会、第二会、第三会之变化。敕修百丈清规卷一圣节条（大四八·一一一三上）：‘转鼓侍者往法座左侧，立候众集。（中略）参头领众行者，列库堂前，相对排立，候转鼓。’
