为婆罗门所用庄严具之一种。据毗奈耶杂事卷一载，六群比丘执钵入城乞食时，见婆罗门身着梵线乞食者，多得美味，遂有仿效者。因而佛陀制定凡着梵线者得越法罪。越法罪为违越正法之罪，初期为轻罪之一种，其后密教判以同越三摩耶之重罪。
